When talking about the changes brought about by time in his daily life, Gilberto Gil entertained journalists who participated in a press conference on Tuesday (6), when he talked about the difficulty in lighting the stove in his apartment in Rio de Janeiro.
“Not knowing how to turn on the stove at home is a hassle,” he said. “I get in front of the stove and think: my God, what is it like?”
At the meeting, Gil, 82, announced the “Tempo Rei” tour, which will pass through nine Brazilian capitals and will mark a farewell to the traveling routine practiced for 60 years.
In good humor, the singer and composer said that he had seen businesswoman Flora Gil, to whom he has been married for four decades, press the button and the fire started, but he had not learned.
“She presses the button and a little spark appears,” she said. “Time went by and it became increasingly difficult for me.”
Flora revealed that, unlike the “Nós, a Gente” tour, in which Gil sang with his children, grandchildren and great-granddaughter Sol de Maria, “Tempo Rei” was not designed for family gatherings.
“In the family group, we talked about it all day. Oh no.”
According to Flora, the logistical difficulties of traveling weighed on his decision. In addition, the singer began to decline invitations and his pace gradually slowed down.
Gil also said that he will miss the excitement of the fans and the interviews with journalists.
“There were so many interesting moments that I spent with someone by my side asking me questions, looking me in the eyes, taking notes. I will miss reporting.”
