Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, are on Latin American soil. The couple arrived in Colombia this Thursday (15) to participate in an event at the invitation of the country’s vice president, Francia Márquez.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will take part in a campaign against cyberbullying and other forms of violence in the digital environment.
At a press conference, the Colombian vice president stated that the British couple’s visit “aims to build bridges and open doors that allow us to join forces to make visible and confront a problem that today concerns all of humanity: virtual harassment, violence in the digital environment and discrimination.”
According to AFP, Harry and Meghan will attend a meeting at a cultural center and a university forum on “responsible digital future”. They will then travel to Cartagena and San Basilio de Palenque, considered the first free city in South America, founded by former African slaves in the 18th century.
The couple’s last stop will be in Cali on Sunday (18). The city’s mayor, Alejandro Eder, announced a few weeks ago that the prince and his wife would participate in the Petronio Álvarez festival of music of African origin.
In the three cities, Harry and Meghan will have “meetings with young women, social leaders and communities,” added Márquez, the first black woman to become the country’s vice president.
The prince will also meet with the Colombian team participating in the Invictus Games, a competition he created after experiencing the horrors of the war in Afghanistan.
The couple’s visit precedes the International Conference on the Eradication of Violence against Children and Adolescents, which will be held in Bogotá between November 7 and 8.
