The frieze depicts the procession of the greatest celebration of ancient Athens, the Panathenaic Games. 380 human figures, men and women, pedestrians, horsemen and chariots, 200 animals and objects and gifts to Athena, protector of Athens, come to her birthday forever, from then until today.
