Days before being arrested on charges of money laundering and promoting illegal gambling, lawyer Deolane Bezerra was the target of the biggest lawsuit of her career as a digital influencer. A follower from Goiás claimed that she lost more than R$1 million due to her addiction to gambling that she promoted.
THE F5 had access to the action, which has been running in the Court of Justice of Goiás (TJ-GO) since Monday (2). A woman claims to have become addicted to games advertised by Deolane on her Instagram account, which has 22 million followers.
Arianny Rosa Pereira says she believed in the earnings that Deolane posted in her stories, as she considered the lawyer a credible person, as well as famous on TV.
She claims that when she started losing money, she had to get rid of some of her assets to keep up with her bets and pay off her debts. One of them was the lease of a popular car that was financed and valued at R$70,000.
According to documents presented to the court, the woman lost around R$1 million in total in bets she made. In addition to the reimbursement of the amount, she is asking for compensation of R$50 thousand for moral damages. The value of the lawsuit is R$1.1 million.
The case has not yet been scheduled to be tried in court. When contacted, Deolane Bezerra’s defense did not respond to contacts made since last Wednesday (4).
This is the biggest lawsuit Deolane has faced for promoting gambling on her platforms. Three other people have also filed lawsuits against her to try to recover the money they lost.
Deolane was arrested on Wednesday morning (4) in Recife, in an operation by the Civil Police of Pernambuco against a criminal organization that operates in illegal gambling and money laundering that would have moved almost R$3 billion.
Known as Doctor Deolane, she was detained with her mother, Solange Alves, in the Boa Viagem neighborhood, in the southern part of the city. The family’s home in São Paulo was also searched by the police, who seized items such as watches and money, according to Dayanne Bezerra, Deolane’s sister.
The headquarters of two betting houses were also searched and seized. Deolane’s defense stated that they had not yet had access to the records, since the case is under judicial secrecy. This Thursday (5), after a custody hearing, the judge maintained the lawyer’s preventive detention.
