by

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation-Lincoln Center (SNF-LC) Agora Initiative is a collaboration between the Stavros Niarchos Foundation (ISN) and the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, one of the largest cultural institutions in the world, based in New York, with the aim of the activation and redefinition of public space. One of the main axes of the initiative is the cultural and artistic exchange and partnership between the Lincoln Center and the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center (SNFCC).

The collaborative exhibition entitled “Faces of the Hero”, which was presented in the summer of 2021 outdoors in both cultural institutions was the first “fruit” of the project.

Expanding this transatlantic partnership, Lincoln Center President and CEO Henry Timms and a leading team from the New York Cultural Institute will travel to Greece in March to meet with SNFCC representatives to exchange expertise and best practices. and share their experience on the operation of open public spaces.

During the three-day meetings, discussions will focus on every possible dimension of the operation of a large-scale cultural organization, from planning and attracting visitors to entrepreneurship and site management.

During the visit, Henry Timms will participate in an open, public debate at the SNFCC, on Thursday, March 17, entitled “New Power & Cultural Leadership” which will examine the contemporary role of cultural institutions in society. More details about the event will be announced soon.

The visit and the open discussion are a milestone of the “SNF-LC Agora Initiative” initiative which started at the end of 2020 with a donation from ISN. Through this initiative, the iconic public space of the Lincoln Center, in New York, with a total area of 65 acres, is used as a Market that is at the center of urban life and hosts cultural events and activities. The need to create a corresponding, open, public space in Athens, which really belongs to the world, was the motivation for ISN in order to proceed with the creation of the SNFCC, through its largest individual donation to date. February 2022 marked the 5th anniversary of the delivery of the SNFCC by the ISN to Greek society.

“A large part of ISN’s public benefit work focuses on enhancing public life, from ensuring that as many people as possible have access to high-quality art programs to conducting open dialogues, as well as enhancing public participation. The public spaces offer the right field for the implementation of the above, and the multidimensional know-how of the Lincoln Center and the SNFCC, which are connected under a common vision, creating “Twin Agoras” (Twin Agoras), works both ways for the benefit of both organizations, on both sides of the Atlantic, “the Stavros Niarchos Foundation said in a statement. In fact, it recently announced its further support for the planning and operation of the SNFCC, while the collaboration between ISN and the Lincoln Center for the “SNF-LC Agora Initiative” is evolving through a new large donation, details of which will be announced in the near future. .
