Preta Gil talks about having her rectum removed and reveals that she is experiencing a new love: ‘I am in love with someone’

Preta Gil, 50, gave her first interview after discovering new cancer foci in her body and resuming treatment for the disease. She told Fantástico (Globo) that she had her rectum removed in surgery about a year ago.

“Everything about this disease is a huge taboo. I had my rectum amputated and I can’t be ashamed because it’s my reality,” she said. “Today I am a stronger Black woman in many ways and today I have an even greater thirst for life.”

The singer said she was shocked when she discovered the disease had returned. “I went for the exam, I went to the hospital for a check-up, it was fine. And then, suddenly, I got an unpleasant surprise like this during my routine exam. My cancer came back, it came back in four different places. But how does it come back? It comes back, it happens more than we imagine,” she commented.

“I’m fine, I’m fine, despite everything, despite the big scare,” he told journalist Maju Coutinho. “I know that I’m going to have to undergo six cycles of chemotherapy. Then I also have the possibility of undergoing radiotherapy. I want to speak openly, precisely with this intention, so that people don’t feel ashamed, that they ask for help, that they surround themselves with people who love them, because everyone reacts differently.”

Preta also commented on a story that went viral on social media. Her father, singer Gilberto Gil, 82, told her that if she couldn’t take it anymore, she should let herself go. “My father is an evolved human being, he has a different relationship with finitude than us,” she explained.

“A conversation I had with him in the ICU, when I had sepsis last year, and I was very ill, really ill, like that. And he saw that I was fighting for my survival, and then he felt that and gave me some advice, like, if it was too much for me at that moment, and that I, if I didn’t want to anymore, should go”, he recalled. “That’s love, that’s a proof of love, right, to tell your child, if you can’t handle it, go. And that hit me like a breath of life, so I said, no, it’s not my time.”
