Four gendarmes were killed and another injured when the armored vehicle they were riding in was involved in traffic accident in the Tunceli province of the east Turkeythe Turkish Ministry of the Interior announced yesterday Sunday.

“After their armored vehicle overturned while on duty in Ovacik, Tunceli province,” four gendarmerie non-commissioned officers “were martyred,” Interior Minister Ali Gerlikaya announced via X, releasing their names and ranks.

The driver lost control of the vehicle, which fell into a ravine, Turkish private news agency DHA explained.

Search and rescue teams rushed to the scene and the five gendarmes were taken to a local hospital. The four were pronounced dead and the fifth is still hospitalized.

The accident is under investigation. Heavy rains in the area yesterday morning had made the situation on the roads much worse, according to the Turkish news television network NTV.
