Kate Winslet, 48, is still struggling with a situation she experienced behind the scenes of the film “Lee”, set to premiere in Brazilian cinemas in December. She recently said in an interview that she was told to hide her folds on set. The episode made her not stay silent and once again take a stand against the beauty standards established by society.
The British actress made a plea and said that women should celebrate “having a real body, having curves and maybe a few extra folds” in an interview with the BBC. She complained that the situation does not happen among men in Hollywood: “It’s interesting how much people like to label women. It’s absolutely bizarre to me. Bizarre situation.”
She then continued. “Life is short and I don’t want to look back and say, ‘Why did I care about that? ‘ and then guess what? I won’t care anymore,” she explained, stating that she intends to continue raising awareness about these situations.
Kate, who stars in the biopic of legendary photographer and war correspondent Elizabeth ‘Lee’ Miller, detailed the scene in which she appears sitting on a bench in a bikini. “One of the crew members came up and told me I could sit up straighter and started to walk around. I said, ‘So they don’t see my tummy tucks? No way!'” she replied. “It was intentional, you know?” she admitted.
The actress recalled that her character didn’t work out during her professional career. “Lee wasn’t lifting weights or doing Pilates all the time. She ate cheese, bread and drank wine, without really caring about whether she gained weight or not. So, of course, her body would be ‘soft’.”
