To keep it lipstick staying on your lips without fading or smudging can be a challenge, especially when it’s hot or after a meal. Matte and permanent lipsticks offer a solution for those who want long-lasting results, but they often dry out the lips, which is not always desirable. Below I have the absolute tips to apply and extend the life of your lipstick, without losing comfort and hydration.

1. Create a perfect outline

Contouring the lips is not only to make them look fuller, but also to keep the lipstick in place. Start from the center of the lips, drawing the arch and continue to the edges for an even effect. If you don’t want to use a lip pencil, you can apply the lipstick first and then lightly define the edges with the pencil, for a more natural look.

2. Fill in the lips with a pencil

To make your lipstick last longer, fill in your lips with a pencil in a shade similar to the lipstick. This creates a base that helps the color stay put. Remove the excess paint with a tissue and repeat 2-3 more times for more durability. At the end, apply your lipstick and reuse the tissue for a permanent result.

3. Use a primer

Although many apply foundation to the lips before lipstick, this is not always ideal for the longevity of the color. It is better to use special primers for the lips, which prepare the skin for the application of the lipstick. Alternatively, you can exfoliate and moisturize your lips well with a lip mask, before painting, for a better result and longer duration.

4. Try lip tints

If you prefer something lighter, lip tints are a good choice. These liquid products color the lips and stay for longer hours, while providing hydration. You can also adjust the intensity of the color, depending on how much you “build” the application.

5. The powder trick

A smart way to ensure longer wear is to use translucent powder. After applying the lipstick, place a tissue over your lips and gently dab a powder (clear or not) to set the color without losing its vibrancy.
