British artist Banksy’s ‘Balloon Girl’ painting, stolen from a London gallery last week, has been found.

The theft took place on September 8 and today the police announced the arrest of two men aged 47 and 53 who remain in custody.

The street artist’s iconic work features a young girl holding a red heart-shaped balloon and there are several murals depicting the same image in London and elsewhere.

The painting was the only item stolen, according to police, who added that it will be returned to the gallery.

The accused have already appeared in court where they were released on bail, and will next appear before the judge on October 9.

Balloon Girl first appeared on the streets of London’s Shoreditch neighborhood in 2002, with Banksy creating versions of the painting on London’s South Bank in 2004 and on Israel’s West Bank dam in 2005.

Banksy became known for his outdoor graffiti with political themes. Once a small-time graffiti artist from the English city of Bristol, his artwork has become extremely popular and valuable.
