One day after Mário Gomes, 71, spray-painted the phrase “I’m not leaving” on one of the walls of the property that was taken from him after being evicted, the actor apologized for the “excessive gesture” and decided to paint the room.

On social media, he showed that he was sorry. “No vandalism, no violence, it doesn’t lead anywhere,” he began before starting to clean the paint off the wall.

“I made an excessive gesture. I am here to redeem myself for my mistake, because to err is human, and he who has never made a mistake should cast the first stone. I will correct this mistake,” he added.

Gomes and his family received a writ of possession after the mansion was auctioned to pay labor debts of seamstresses from the former clothing factory he owned in Paraná. The house, facing the sea and valued at more than R$20 million, was sold for R$720 thousand.

His son, João Pallma, asked people to stop sending hate messages against the family.

Gomes is a candidate for city councilor for the Republicanos party. He was one of the most popular heartthrobs on TV Globo’s soap operas in the 1970s and 1980s, such as “Gabriela”, “Guerra dos Sexos” and “Vereda Tropical”. In March 2017, he made headlines for appearing selling hamburgers on a beach in Rio.
