Pharrell Williams said he didn’t warn Jay-Z, Snoop Dogg or the other famous faces in his new documentary that they were going to be transformed into LEGO figures.

The movie “Piece By Piece” will be released in theaters on October 11.

From the beginning of the film, Williams mentions that the best way he can express himself is through LEGOs.

“I was given Lego sets as a kid, and that was a really amazing platform for me to let my imagination run wild and learn things about myself, as it is for most kids and for a lot of people – millions and millions of people in planet”the American singer, musician and film producer told Variety at the Toronto Film Festival, where “Piece by Piece” premiered.

The film features interviews with many of Williams’ closest collaborators, including Justin Timberlake, Kendrick Lamar, Pusha T and Timbaland.

No one was told that the movie would be made with LEGO. “We deliberately didn’t tell anyone that this would be the final form. “We wanted people to just answer the questions and really give their full, spontaneous reactions to the opportunity to do the interviews,” he said.

“I wanted the purest piece. And I feel like part of the magic of the film is that it’s so alive and unscripted.” he explained.

Williams added that when the interviewees learned that they would appear in the film as LEGO figures, “everyone was pleasantly surprised and incredibly supportive.”
