The Foreign Affairs Council is meeting today with an agenda that is at the cutting edge of geopolitical developments, amid the peace process that has already begun in Gaza and amid developments in the Ukrainian“, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs George Gerapetritis upon arrival in Luxembourg.

In Gaza, all of our attention is focused on the implementation of the peace plan, so that the process for a sustainable peace can proceed smoothly and move to the second phase“, he said characteristically. “I will inform my counterparts about the presence of Greece in Sharm El-Sheikh and what was announced there, as well as the visit, a few hours after Sharm El-Sheikh, of the Palestinian Foreign Minister, regarding the future of the peace process. Greece is ready to contribute both to the reconstruction of Gaza and to humanitarian aid. It is very important that we can all work systematically, so that we can have a sustainable peace”.

As far as Ukraine is concerned, Greece is present, as the minister said. “We are on the side of Ukraine. We wish for any peace process, which will put an end to this perennial and bloody war in Europe, and for this reason we are ready to contribute to the humanitarian and reconstruction aspects».

And he went on to say:

“But it’s the age of connections, it’s the age of connectivity, it’s the time to look at greater regional partnerships. Europe needs to increase its footprint. And for this reason, we have on the agenda the cooperation with the Eastern Partnership, with the Black Sea, with Central Asia, so that Europe can increase its geopolitical footprint, be able to include more partners”.

“Within the framework of the Council of Foreign Affairs I have the opportunity to meet with all the Ministers, who are outside the member states of the European Union, with the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, Moldova, Turkey, Ukraine. It’s composition time. It is the season to see the future with vision. Disagreements can only have disastrous results”, Mr. Gerapetritis concluded.
