Evicted from his mansion in Rio, actor Mário Gomes, 71, took to social media to ask for Pix payments starting at R$1.
“I’m here to thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for this solidarity that only our people have. These wonderful people don’t deserve to go through what they’re going through. I’m so moved to tears, because it’s so cool. You can count on me,” he said in a video whose caption was a request for donations.
“If anyone can help with R$1 or just by commenting, I will be grateful.”
Gomes and his family received a writ of possession after the mansion was auctioned to pay labor debts of seamstresses from the former clothing factory he owned in Paraná. The house, facing the sea and valued at more than R$20 million, was sold for R$720 thousand.
His son, João Pallma, asked people to stop sending hate messages against the family.
Gomes is a candidate for city councilor for the Republicanos party. He was one of the most popular heartthrobs on TV Globo’s soap operas in the 1970s and 1980s, such as “Gabriela”, “Guerra dos Sexos” and “Vereda Tropical”. In March 2017, he made headlines for appearing selling hamburgers on a beach in Rio.
One day after spray-painting the wall of the mansion with the phrase “I’m not leaving”, the actor apologized for the “excessive gesture” and decided to paint the room.
On social media, he showed that he was sorry. “No vandalism, no violence, it doesn’t lead anywhere,” he began before starting to clean the paint off the wall.
