A United Nations panel has condemned Israel’s serious violations of the international convention protecting children’s rights, saying its military actions since October 7 have had a “catastrophic” impact on them.

“The committee condemns in the strongest possible terms the serious violations of rights protected by the convention in the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including the massive loss of life as a result of state military actions,” the four-member committee said in a document referring to the Convention on the Rights of the Child. .

A few days ago, the Hamas health authority in Gaza released a list of the names of nearly 35,000 Palestinians who had been killed by the end of August after Israel launched its military operation in the Gaza Strip last October.

The first 14 pages of the list refer to 710 children – victims under the age of one – while a total of 11,355 children and adolescents under the age of 18 are included in this list

Israel’s mission argued at a series of UN hearings earlier this month that the convention does not apply to Gaza or the West Bank and said it remains committed to respecting international humanitarian law.
