K-pop star Suga, a member of the group BTS, was fined 15 million won (about US$11,500 or R$62,662) by a court for driving an electric scooter under the influence of alcohol.
A judge at Seoul’s Western District Court issued the fine in a summary judgment last week after his case was referred to the prosecutor’s office, a court official said on Monday.
In August, the songwriter and rapper apologized for the incident, calling it “careless and wrong behavior,” and police also revoked his license for driving the electric scooter while intoxicated.
Suga fell while parking his scooter at night, according to his record label Big Hit Music, which is part of K-pop company HYBE. The record company also said he failed a breathalyzer test carried out by police to measure his blood alcohol level.
Since announcing a break from the group’s projects in June 2022, the members of BTS have continued with solo activities before beginning military service.
Suga, 31, has dedicated himself to social service work to fulfill his commitment to military service.
