Indian police are investigating the resale of concert tickets Coldplay in Mumbai. After the tickets quickly sold out, some began to reappear on unauthorized third-party websites for prices as high as £750.

India is not often a stop on world tours for popular artists and the news that Coldplay will play two concerts in the Asian country, in Mumbai for the first time in January, was met with enthusiasm by music fans.

However, as more than 700,000 people logged on to BookMyShow in an attempt to buy tickets, the site quickly crashed. A large number of the group’s fans were disappointed as tickets sold out in minutes. Many were outraged when tickets started reappearing on unauthorized third-party websites for prices as high as £760.

Local media reported that police questioned BookMyShow’s chief operating officer yesterday after receiving a complaint from Mumbai lawyer Amit Vyas, who alleged that the company that sold the tickets was working with the “black market”. to earn extra from ticket sales.

“I checked about 100 people that I know are concert regulars, nobody got a ticket” Vias said, according to the Indian Express newspaper. “That made me suspicious. That’s when I decided to go to the police as I knew something was wrong,” he explained.

BookMyShow issued a statement following public backlash saying it had “nothing to do” with unauthorized ticket sales.
