A spiral that stole cars in various areas of Attica was dismantled by the Police.
The seven-member gang altered the characteristics of the vehicles, forged documents and traffic licenses and returned them to the market.
The victims of the thefts speak to SKAI.
“About five years ago I had a car stolen from Mavro Lithari on the beach in Saronida and a second time a few months ago, my motorcycle was stolen from under my house in Athens,” reports a victim of the gang, adding that after a few months “the police took me and told me that my motorcycle was found, they told me that it was found with a change in color and a falsified license plate number
“I’m one of the lucky ones or the wise ones, I had her insured…”, he observes.
“On the morning of June 12, when I got down to the parking lot, the car was missing. Apparently, they also have a way of opening garage doors now,” describes another victim.
According to ELAS, the gang members initially located parked vehicles, stole them, altered their characteristics, falsified the traffic data and then put them back on the road.
A total of 7 people were arrested and the illegal benefit exceeds 180,000 euros. 7 cases of vehicle theft have been solved from Keratea, Piraeus, Nea Filadelfia, Peristeri, Magoula, Ano Liosia and Ilion.
In fact, it seems that they are not the only gang, as car thefts have become a scourge throughout Attica.
“It was November 15-16. The car was right outside my house, Agia Paraskevi. I got up to go to work around five thirty and just found another one parked in its place. I started walking around the narrow streets, the squares. And of course I never found anything,” sums up another victim.
In some cases, the astute ones don’t just stop at stealing, they also ask for a ransom.
“I was contacted by a person who was of foreign origin and told me that he is very sorry for what happened to me. After two weeks the same person contacted me again with a changed voice and told me that he can contact the people who stole my car and with a little money they will give it back to me. Of course, not to contact the authorities. And after a few days he called me again and took the amount of €500, without of course giving me the car back”
“Some people called us and asked for money. And someone else had also taken us undercover 2-3 days ago and was asking us for money to find the car. We were very scared.”
