Cid Moreira died fighting with his children and defended his wife against accusations in court

The first and most remembered anchor of Globo’s Jornal Nacional, announcer Cid Moreira ended his life amid a fight between his children and his current wife, Fátima Sampaio. All the fuss started in 2021, with a lawsuit involving his sons Roger and Rodrigo, the result of Cid’s first marriage.

Both asked for their father’s interdiction and considered having a share of the future inheritance. The action, to which the F5 had access at the time, it was filed with an urgent request at the TJ-RJ (Court of Justice of Rio), claiming to be an “elderly, senile person who has psychiatric problems caused by age”.

In court documents, Fátima was accused of “totally fleecing the elderly man, in pure senile fraud, embezzlement and conspiracy.” She is also accused of mistreatment and false imprisonment, without close family members being able to visit him.

According to the children, she would offer their father spoiled food, in addition to leaving him without medication and verbally attacking him. She would also be responsible for convincing him to disinherit his children.

Cid has always denied all accusations, and said he was treated very well by his current partner. He said it was the invention of both his children and people close to him who didn’t like Fátima.

To defend his current wife, Cid showed audios, images and gave full access. He ended up winning the legal action, which was carried out in secret from the courts the entire time, even though it became a public matter.

In an interview with the F5in 2023, the matter was already part of the past, but it still hurt the Globo contractor a lot. “I’ve been working since I was eight years old and someone who doesn’t want to work comes and demands things,” he commented.

“Similars attract each other and opposites repel each other. So there was a total disagreement. You fight your whole life, you work, you fulfill your commitments and that’s what matters. My philosophy has always been like this: do what is right, donate to whoever hurt”, he concluded.
