Upon discovering bowel cancer in January 2023, Preta Gil worried not only about her own health, but also that of her family. The singer underwent an exam to assess the risks that her brothers and son would have in developing the disease.
“When she was first diagnosed with cancer, we, the brothers, did a test… I mean, they did a test on her to find out if it was changeable, genetic, so that we could do the colonoscopy in advance or not,” said Bela Gil , the singer’s sister, on the program Saia Justa (GNT).
The cook said that the test carried out by her sister had a negative result. This type of test can contribute to family genetic counseling, if any risk is identified.
Bela also spoke about her sister’s resilience: “I think she is resilient, and she is also, in a certain way, practical. She faces it, she knows what she has to do, and this way of facing reality maybe helps in a way certain way.”
Preta Gil resumed cancer treatments in August this year after discovering that her tumor had returned in four different places on her body. “I have two lymph nodes, a metastasis in the peritoneum and a lesion,” she said.
