Opened by singer Lisa, from the Korean band Blackpink, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show made its triumphant return this Tuesday (15), at the brand’s headquarters in New York.
It was the first fashion show after a six-year hiatus for the lingerie brand, which made history with its “angels” — the models who became iconic for parading in a sensual way — many of them Brazilian.
The opening of the show, however, was a new generation top model, Gigi Hadid. She entered with huge baby pink wings and a silk baby doll in the same color. The first part of the fashion show, with a performance by South African singer Tyla, featured looks in pastel colors, lots of white, silk and feathers.
The first Brazilian to enter was Adriana Lima, one of the brand’s traditional angels. She wore a black lingerie set with ties and second skin, adorned with plastic wings with an iridescent effect. Adriana, 43, made five appearances on the catwalk, all with stunning looks and the same energy as twenty years ago.
The presence of the classic angels was one of the highlights of the parade. Alessandra Ambrosio, 43, wore a glittery ensemble with studded wings. And to applause from the audience, Isabeli Fontana, 41, entered in a gold metallic-effect cape. The Brazilians were part of the golden age of the angels, which also included Ana Beatriz Barros and Gisele Bündchen.
Kate Moss, 50, modeled an all-black and lace look to the sound of “I Love Rock’n’Roll”. Another classic angel who was present was Candice Swanepoel, 35. Among the newcomers are plus-size model Devin Garcia, 23, and trans Brazilian Valentina Sampaio, also 23. The fashion show also featured Carla Bruni, 56, for the first time on the brand’s catwalk.
The show lasted about 40 minutes and was closed by Cher, who sang her classic “Believe”. Tyra Banks, 50, closed the show wearing a look with a sparkly leotard and black cape.
FOREVER ANGEL
In her ninth Victoria’s Secret fashion show, Isabeli Fontana said, in a backstage interview, that she was excited to return to the catwalk: “I’m very anxious and excited. It’s always fun,” said the Brazilian. She also revealed that she had an angel wing tattooed on the back of her neck, in honor of the brand.
“I was always upset that I never paraded with wings. I only wore wings in my eighth parade. That’s why I got one tattooed on the back of my neck, to show that I’ve always been an angel,” said Isabeli.
Tyra Banks, 50, made the reporter laugh when she said that her most memorable moment at the brand was when she retired. “Not because I stopped working, but because my farewell parade was so incredible and special,” he explained.
