Family members of singer Liam Payne, found dead in a hotel in Argentina, made a first statement after the incident and said they were “heartbroken” by his premature death.
In a statement issued by the British press, family members say they are helping each other to get through this delicate moment.
“Liam will forever live in our hearts and we will remember him for his kind, funny and brave soul. We are supporting each other the best we can as a family and ask for privacy and space at this terrible time,” relatives said.
According to the BBC, Argentine police reported that an emergency call raised an alert about “an aggressive man who could be under the influence of drugs and alcohol” at the Casa Sur hotel, where Payne was staying in Buenos Aires.
The AFP news agency reports that the emergency call came from a hotel manager at around 5 pm local time on Wednesday (16). He reported that a guest was “drugged and trashing the room.”
Payne jumped from the third floor balcony and died from multiple trauma. Shortly after police arrived at the scene, a loud sound was heard in the hotel’s inner courtyard, where officers later found Payne’s body.
