The profile of the band One Direction published a letter about the death of Liam Payne, a former member of the band who died last Wednesday (16). Harry Styles, Louis Tomlinson, Zayn Malik and Niall Horan expressed their feelings of sadness at their former bandmate’s departure.
“We are completely devastated by the news of Liam’s death,” the former members said on social media. “In time, and when everyone is able, there will be more to say. But for now, let’s take some time to grieve and process the loss of our brother, who we loved dearly,” the statement continues.
“The memories we shared with him will be cherished forever. For now, our thoughts are with his family, his friends and the fans who loved him by our side. We will miss him dearly.” The text ends with a declaration: “We love you, Liam.”
The former members of the boy band had not yet spoken out about their former colleague’s death. Only Louis published a letter to his friend on his personal profile, also this Thursday (17),
The last post on One Direction’s profile was in 2020, when the British boy band turned 10. Formed in 2010, the members separated in 2016 to pursue solo careers.
Liam died after falling from the third floor of a hotel balcony in Buenos Aires, Argentina. Police said they were called to the scene following reports of an “aggressive man who may have been under the influence of drugs and alcohol.” The singer fell from the balcony after the police arrived.
