According to the information provided by the private person, who owned it as a bequest, it comes from Akrokorinthos. Knowing his Greek origin, the citizen contacted the Consulate General of Greece in Frankfurtin the spring of 2022, stating its intention to return the ancient object to its country of origin. The Consular Authority in collaboration with the Directorate of Documentation and Protection of Cultural Properties proceeded with the necessary procedures for the return of the monument to Greece.
The voluntary surrender of the architectural member that had been illegally exported from Greece is one more of many similar actions by German citizens in recent years. This growing trend is the result of citizens’ awareness of the need to preserve cultural heritage and the return of cultural goods to the countries where they belong, through the multitude of actions implemented at the national and international level.
The architectural member will be delivered to Ephorate of Antiquities of Corinth.
