Prince Harry did not say at an event that Lula is a ‘Brazilian god’

Prince Harry, son of Charles III, King of England, did not say that President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) is considered a “Brazilian god”. Contrary to what a viral post says, there is no record that the Duke of Sussex said this.

As verified from a reverse image search, the post displays a real video of Harry’s participation in an event in London on September 30 of this year, but makes up what he would have said.

In the misleading publication, a robotic voice says: “‘Lula is practically considered a god in Brazil due to his great recognition by the Brazilian people’, says Prince Harry in an interview in the United Kingdom.” The narration continues saying that Harry would have said that his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, “always spoke very highly” of the Brazilian. “Usually, it’s anyone’s dream to have lunch at the palace and meet the queen, but you may not even believe that it was the queen’s dream for Lula to go to the palace for lunch and visit her [sic]”, Harry reportedly said.

But he didn’t say any of that. Harry is a patron of WellChild, an NGO that supports children with serious health problems and, on September 30th, he participated in the organization’s awards ceremony in London. During the event, the prince presented one of the awards and gave a speech, thanking the children and praising their caregivers. At no point did he mention Lula.

The president was with Queen Elizabeth II at Buckingham Palace in 2006, following an invitation from the then monarch, who was “delighted” to receive the president and the first lady, Marisa Letícia, as guests. On that occasion, Lula stayed for three days at the palace, which is the official residence of the royal family. He and Queen Elizabeth also met in 2009, at a meeting in London.
