British King Charles and his wife, Queen Camilla, made a brief stopover in India after their recent trip to Australia and Samoa, Buckingham Palace confirmed on Wednesday (30). The couple stayed at a holistic health center they had previously visited.

A royal source said the stopover was not related to his current health problems, but to allow him to rest in preparation for his recent long-distance tour in a location he was familiar with. The monarch was diagnosed with prostate cancer in February this year.

Charles, 75, and Camilla made the private visit as they returned from a recent trip to Australia, where he is Head of State, and a brief visit to Samoa for the Commonwealth heads of government meeting, their first major trip abroad since who was diagnosed with cancer.

According to the Indian press, the royal couple arrived in Bengaluru on October 27 and have since been at the Soukya International Holistic Health Center, where they enjoyed yoga and meditation sessions.

“Their Majesties made a brief private stop in India to assist with the long journey back from Samoa,” a Buckingham Palace spokesperson said. “They return to the UK this morning.”

Charles, who has long advocated alternative therapies and medicines, has made many visits to India and the Soukya center itself.

The site’s website, which says it aims to “restore the natural balance of mind, body and spirit”, features photos of Charles and Camilla and a statement from the monarch on its front page.

His cancer treatment will resume when he returns to the UK, the source said.
