Entering the old neoclassical building of Dioskouroi and Polygnotou beyond the beautiful courtyard, one will find on the elevated ground floor an introductory, introductory exhibition about the life, work and aesthetic choices of Elytis. There is a chronology and sections on painters of his generation and more generally for painters of the 20th century, for his deep relationship with music, from Mozart to his multiple compositions, for Greek timelessness and writing. Also presented are family heirlooms and his publishing presence abroad, with his books in French, Chinese, Japanese and Arabic. We will, of course, see a showcase for the Nobel.

The space is small and the selection is indicative. However, they all give the public, initiated and uninitiated, the opportunity to come into contact with the world of Elytis. And it is of particular interest that the real workplace of the poet is presented, as it operated in the small apartment of Skoufawith his library, his office and the visual works of his friends.

Elytis Office

Elytis did not live here, but the world of his dreams, sensations and aesthetic choices, which also had a moral dimension, acquires special weight in an age of narcissism and accumulation of goods because it highlights his values: oligarchy and clarity. It is the precise and the little, which he defended in his life in the most lyrical way.
