In the show of Sunday, November 3, Aris Portosalte with guest historian Dimitra Koukiou, examine the decisive contribution of the women of Greece in the Struggle for Independence, beyond the famous figures of Bouboulina and Mantos Mavrogenous.
From the peasant woman who supports her home and the men at the front, to the few female voices in Filiki Etaireia, the unseen heroines who contributed either by fighting or by their business and political attitude are illuminated.
With examples that debunk the stereotype, the discussion highlights the women’s endurance, dedication and hidden political influence that underpinned the national Struggle, giving a holistic picture of their historical place.
