Former reporter Maurício Kubrusly, known for the show “Me Leva, Brasil”, from Fantástico, will be making a documentary on Globoplay. The series tells the story of the journalist, who in 2023 revealed that he had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia. At 77 years old, he lives in seclusion in the south of Bahia with his wife, Beatriz Goulart. “Kubrusly: Mistério Semper Há De Pintar Por Aí” is scheduled to premiere in December on streaming.
The documentary work was produced by Jornalismo da Globo with the signatures of Evelyn Kuriki (“Correntes”) and Caio Cavechini (“Jaci”). The documentary will portray the challenges experienced by Kubrusly who, according to Beatriz, has problems walking, no longer recognizes her past and has episodes of mental confusion.
Dementia is a set of diseases that manifest themselves through cognitive loss, that is, the patient loses skills they had mastered, compromising their autonomy and leading to dependence on others. Frontotemporal dementia gets its name because it is characterized by atrophy of these regions of the brain, creating behavioral problems for the patient. It’s the same disease that kept American actor Bruce Willis (“Die Hard”) away from cinema.
Before entering the Globoplay catalogue, the production will be shown at the opening of the 11th Mostra de Cinema de Gostoso, in São Miguel do Gostoso, in Rio Grande do Norte, on November 22, and at the 57th edition of the Brasília Festival of Brazilian Cinema , at the beginning of next month. Kubrusly worked at Globo for 34 years and left in 2019, when he already had some health problems.
