Richard Gere sells mansion for more than R$60 million and leaves the USA

Richard Gere, 75, decided to sell his mansion in New Canaan, Connecticut, United States, for US$10.7 million, approximately R$62 million at the current price. The American actor plans to move to Spain, the birthplace of his current wife, Alejandra Silva.

The property, a classic building from 1938, has six bedrooms, 11 bathrooms, a large swimming pool, lush gardens stretching over 13 hectares and a three-bedroom guest house. In an interview with Vanity Fair. The actor explained that the motivation for the change is Alejandra. “It will be wonderful for her to be closer to her family, her lifelong friends and her culture,” Gere commented in April.

He also mentioned that the decision was a form of retribution. “Alejandra was very generous in giving me six years living in my world, so it’s only fair that I give her at least another six years living in hers,” said the actor. The couple met in 2014, in Italy, and have two sons, Alexander, 5, and James, 4.

Richard Gere was one of the celebrities who publicly spoke out against Donald Trump, re-elected for a second term as president of the United States this Monday (4). Many of the tycoon’s supporters were highly critical of the actor and, after the Republican Party candidate’s victory, rumors emerged that the couple now intend to leave the country as quickly as possible.

The repercussions surrounding the couple’s departure increased following a comment by Alejandra on her social media about the result of the United States presidential elections: “May God save us all.”
