Timothee Salame revealed he was moved to tears when he sang as Bob Dylan in new biopic “A Complete Unknown” by James Mangold about the early years of the influential singer-songwriter. The French-American actor plays Bob Dylan as a young folk artist who arrives in New York in 1961 and eventually embraces rock’n’roll in 1965.

Speaking on “The Zane Lowe Show” on Apple Music 1, Timothee Salamet explained that he performs songs and plays guitar as Dylan throughout the film and recalled his first experience singing during filming.

“It was ‘Song to Woody,’ which is one of my favorite Bob Dylan songs,” said Timothée Salame. “It was the first one we shot on film. It couldn’t be shot as playback because it’s such an intimate scene. He is in a hospital room with Woody Guthrie and Pete Seeger. And I performed it live” volit shone.

The actor recalled being nervous about the performance and explained: “I make mistakes on the guitar a little here and there, but you can fill them in later.” he added.

“I went home and cried that night, not to be dramatic, but it’s a song I’ve lived with for years and something I could relate to deeply. And I also felt, I go back to that word a lot, I felt it was the most decent work I’d ever done.” underlined.

“And dignity may be a strange word, but I felt so dignified and humbled, that we are reliving an event that happened 67 years ago” he reported.

Timothee Salamet went on to say that by the end of production, he could “probably play 30” of Dylan’s songs, although only “13” were needed for the film. He pre-recorded several songs in a studio with Edward Norton, who plays Pete Seeger in the film, but said those recordings were eventually abandoned in favor of live recordings made on set.
