Denzel Washington he admitted that his past drug and alcohol use had affected his health. The “Gladiator II” actor, who is set to celebrate 10 years of sobriety on his 70th birthday in December, told Esquire: “I have done a lot of damage to my body. Things are changing for me now that I’m getting older. And this is my new reality. My mother reached the age of 97. I’m doing my best.”

The actor revealed that he used drugs several years ago, but wine was his… weakness. “I took drugs like everyone else, but I was never masturbated”he said and added: “I had this ideal idea of ​​wine tastings and all that, which was also in the beginning.” However, when his family built a wine cellar in their home, the Oscar winner revealed he learned to drink ‘the best’.

“I learned to drink the best. Wine was my forte, and now I was opening $4,000 worth of bottles just because they were left.” When his wife, Pauletta, asked him why he only bought two bottles at a time, the actor replied: “Because if I order more, I’ll drink more.” So I kept it in both bottles and drank both during the day.”

Despite his habit, however, the actor said he avoided drinking while working on his various projects and films. “I never drank while working or preparing. I was cleaning, going back to work – I could do both.”
