A short distance from the Herodiusat the junction of Erechtheiou and N. Kallisperi, a white marble statue was found in the framework of the supervision of a natural gas network installation project, in a pit only one meter wide, which gives a naked male figure to its type Mercury Ludovisi. The work was placed inside a structure built of rectangular bricks and was found in a fairly good condition.

In this area, to the south of the Acropolis, during the imperial times (1st-5th century AD) some of the most splendid urban mansions of Athens were built. These edifices, evidence of a city that was an object of admiration and attraction for well-to-do cultured citizens, were richly decorated with mosaic-decorated floors and sculptures, the work of the famous Neo-Attic workshops.

The staff of the Ephorate of Antiquities of the City of Athens, after completing the documentation of the find, ensures its safe transport to the conservation laboratories, in order for the project to receive the necessary care.
