Roberta Miranda recalls family crisis after revealing affair with woman: ‘Rejection’

Singer Roberta Miranda, 68, has just released the autobiography “Um Lugar Todinho Meu” in which she tells details about the promise she made to her mother to never talk about her sexual orientation. She defines herself as pansexual (she is attracted to people regardless of gender, sexual orientation or gender identity).

“My mother’s rejection, however, left a strong impression on me. So much so that I promised her, on her deathbed, that I would never reveal my sexuality. At that time, everything was very hidden, careers were destroyed due to scandals Yes, because being gay was a scandal, and if today we are still the country that kills the most LGBTQIA+ people, 40 years ago it was still much more dangerous”, he says in part.

“Times have changed, and if I want to tell my truth in this book, I can’t hide an important part of who I am. And I’m sure my mother, up above, is blessing my decision to share old secrets with fans,” he says her in another section.

Roberta’s first crush on a woman was with a friend who frequented and slept with her in the same house. But the country girl’s father was also interested in her. Both were teenagers.

“I found myself in love with her, even though I didn’t know how to deal with it. And, as little misfortune is nonsense, I realized that my father also had his eye on her. That was the time when he hit me, I ran away, he regretted it and I would come back”, he recalled.

According to the singer, after telling her family that she was interested in women, she ended up creating a crisis at home. Afterwards, he said that it was just a phase and that he was not homosexual.

“My mother got sick and blamed me, saying that God was punishing her for my naughtiness. My father became even more aggressive, I don’t know if it was because he knew I liked the girl or if the problem was that I was the same girl he was interested in. Even though I was already out of the house, it was an extra hell in my life.”
