Upon returning from Christmas break, journalist Márcio Gomes had a fright while driving through the streets of São Paulo. This Saturday (28) afternoon, he was the victim of an attempted robbery on the Eusébio Matoso bridge, in the west of the capital.
The CNN anchor reported what happened in a video published on his social networks and said he was fine. In the images, he appears with bloody clothes and shows a cut on his hand, the result of trying to prevent the assailant from breaking the car window.
“The same old scam. I saw the guy approaching my car, with a rock. I saw him make the move. I tried to put my hand to hold the window. Result: I cut my hand. A little blood came out here. He wanted to take my cell phone. There was a little dispute. He didn’t take the cell phone. Of course I’m super scared, I’m super upset,” said the journalist.
He then wanted to highlight the people who helped him after the incident. The journalist said that a gas station attendant — who he described as “a sweet person” — cleaned the broken glass from the bank and directed him to a car wash. He also mentioned a man who opened the car wash exclusively to help him and vacuum the glass.
Finally, he said that a woman saw the attempted robbery taking place, stopped the car and honked the horn, to try to help scare the alleged criminal.
“The woman who was in the car next door was desperate when she saw what happened. People, they care. And that is the objective of this message. Let’s continue to care about others, let’s not let things go, no matter how absurd they are. that is, passing beats”, said Gomes.
“The scare was big. But I’m much calmer now, remembering something that we should never forget: that we can count on people. Crime exists, violence exists, but the good ones are much more, the good ones are much more active and that’s what we have to hold on to so we don’t give up on places like this”, he added.
