Decreased compared to the corresponding time period in 2023, was the attendance at Louvre Museum the period when the Paris hosted them Olympiacos and Paralympic Games.

In July and August, months that partially included the Paris Olympics, the museum welcomed 1.3 million visitors, down 14 percent from July-August 2023, the French news agency reported. (AFP). The Louvre was to be closed on July 25 and 26, the day of the opening ceremony of the Olympic Games.

Overall, despite this decline, attendance at the Louvre museum was almost flat in 2024, at 8.7 million visitors, according to figures released (6/1) by the institution.

The world’s largest museum “maintains its attendance at 2023 levels”, with 8.7 million visitors in 2024 compared to 8.9 million a year earlier (-2%), the Louvre museum estimates.

In 2024, the Louvre welcomed 77% foreign visitors, including 13% Americans and some Europeans (5% Italy, UK and Germany, 4% Spain). “Chinese visitors (6% vs. 2.4%) are beginning to return significantly,” the museum underlines.
It should be noted that 28% of visitors benefited from free entry, while the museum raised its prices just a year ago to 22 euros for full entry.

Other Paris museums popular with tourists: the Orsay and the Orangerie welcomed 4.9 million visitors in 2024, compared to 5.07 million the previous year.

Overall attendance “down only 3% compared to 2023, a record attendance year, is more than 15% compared to 2022” a year still marked by Covid-19.
