“In 2015, I adopted a beagle from a dog rescue organization in Canada. He had been in a kill shelter in Kentucky and had been given a few days to live. I took to him immediately… and fell in love with him.
They called him “the little guy” because he was so small and weak, so I named him “Guy”. And he was the best boyfriend a girl could ever ask for.
If you followed me on Instagram back then, you’d have seen plenty of pictures of him – and on The Tig too. He was with me on the set of Suits, when I got engaged (and then married), when I became a mother… he was with me through everything: the quiet moments, the chaos, the calm, the comfort.
He had a terrible accident just before I moved to the UK which forced him to undergo operations for several months and unable to leave the clinic. Doctors said he would never walk again, but Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick thought he could. H and I drove late at night, after closing time, to see Guy as he recuperated in Surrey for months.
I will always be grateful to Noel and his team, the team at Queen West Animal Hospital in Toronto, our current vets, my friends and my community: Thank you for loving him so much.
Since many of you will now see Guy in this new series, I hope you understand why I am so devastated by his loss. I think you might love him a little too.
I’ve shed more tears than I can count – tears that make you step into the shower in the irrational hope that the running water on your face will make them disappear or pretend they’re not there. But it is. And that’s okay.
Thank you for so many years of unconditional love, my dear Guy. You filled my life in ways you’ll never know,” she wrote accompanying her post with a video of various moments of their little dog with the whole family over the years.
