First on the list is England, followed by the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and the museums of New York – Where is a Greek place
A list of the 52 places one must visit in 2025 has been published by the New York Times with a Greek destination in between.
In first place is Jane Austen’s England, as the New York Times typically writes. “Where will the new year take you? Start your travel plans by choosing favorites from our annual list,” they add.
Explaining why southwest England is top for this year, the NYT says: “Jane Austen fans have a good reason to explore southwest England this year: It’s the 250th anniversary of her birth, and celebrations abound.”
At second and third place they are the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador and the museums of New York, respectively. The five complete the Assam in India and White Lotus in Thailand.
Other places included in the list are Greenland, Sydney, Scotland, East London and a city in America famous for its high crime rate.
Explaining why Greenland is also on the list, the NYT notes that it’s because of its “sparkling new international airport,” adding that it’s “expected to bring many new visitors who want to enjoy the Northern Lights, massive glaciers, fjords and more for it the giant arctic island”.
Sydney earns a spot in the rankings for its reputation as a “seafood mecca” and its “expanding” subway network, the NYT reveals. He explains: “You can’t live in Sydney without a deep awe of the sea,” and recommends tourists head into the city to feast on the Sydney Fish Market, which is getting a makeover this year.
Among the 52 parts, there is also one in Greece: Delphi which is at position 29 on the list.
According to the New York Times Delphi: “Attracts visitors beyond Athens and the islands. Greece may not be famous for hiking, but that could soon change with the opening of the 500-mile Pindos Trail. This 42-day journey through the Pindos mountain range, which stretches from the Albanian border to Delphi, offers a glimpse into a different Greece, one of snow-capped peaks, verdant valleys, pristine lakes and red-tiled villages. In other words, a Greece beyond popular imagination. For decades, these once-vibrant mountain communities suffered from desertification and economic decline. The Pindos Trail project aims to reverse this trend by promoting the area as a year-round alternative. Visitors can follow ancient pastoral trails and stay in rustic villages, filled with the country’s little-known mountain culture. Much of the trail remains a work in progress, but the section starting at Delphi should be ready for hiking by summer. Start by visiting the seat of the ancient world’s most famous oracle, then hike the slopes of Parnassus to the summit of Mount Giona, passing through cedar forests, Byzantine monasteries and charming, lost villages.’
