“Spread across ten rooms covering 1,200 square meters, it explores the brand’s unconventional approach to the world of luxury, characterized by elegance, sensuality and uniqueness, while also including humor, irreverence and subversion,” says a statement from the house.
The Italian house Dolce & Gabbana was founded in 1985 and the two designers were described as the bad boys of Milanese fashion, known for their unique blend of Italian cinematic glamour, glamorous couture and rock and roll iconography. They went on to become brilliant couturiers who are recognized for creating one of the twelve most popular fashion brands of the past half century.
Both archival and new collections are presented in sections in the exhibition, highlighting the many layers of Italian cultural influences in Dolce & Gabbana’s approach to fashion design. The thematic sections cover art, architecture, handicrafts, topographies, music, opera and ballet, folk traditions, theater and of course “La Dolce Vita”, the exhibition description points out.
Visitors can witness live demonstrations of unparalleled craftsmanship. Five talented seamstresses from Dolce & Gabbana’s Milan atelier are on display, painstakingly working on busts and corsets right in front of the audience.
The exhibition “Du Cœur à La Main: Dolce & Gabbana” will be open to the public at the Grand Palais for a limited time, from January 10th to March 31st.
