A makeup artist calls it “a magic wand for your skin”
It’s no secret that the TikTok highlights the biggest trends in the field of beauty. The latest viral trends flooding our feeds is the rouge in a lavender shade. This pastel hue has seen a huge surge in popularity, garnering 1.9 million video views and recording a 13,600% increase in views this quarter compared to last.

According to Spate, searches related to this trend include brands such as YSL Beauty, TONYMOLY and Peripera, which offer products in this on-trend shade. However, the rise of lavender blush did not come without controversy. The so-called “YSL blush controversy” gained ground in September when TikToker Golloria George criticized the brand’s luxury blush formulas for their white base, which she, and many others, found incompatible with darker skin tones .
@paintedbyspencer 😱 Is LAVENDER BLUSH my new go-to color?! I’ve been wearing this “Lavender Lust” Liquid Blush from @YSL Beauty for the last week and I gotta say… I’ve been LOVING it for my “no makeup” makeup looks! On my fair skin tone, it pulls just the right amount of a pinky hue that gives my complexion a subtle sunkissed effect, but while looking super natural 🤌🏼 #lavenderblush #yslblush #liquidblush #paintedbyspencer ♬ original sound – SPENCER
But when created inclusively, lavender blush can deliver truly dreamy results. “Lavender is like a magic wand for your skin,” says celebrity makeup artist Tonya Riner. “Its cool tone acts as a color corrector, instantly brightening any complexion. It neutralizes and works with your undertones, creating a glow that looks fresh and unique. Rather than looking like a traditional blush, lavender gives a subtle, skin-enhancing tint, a soft, unexpected burst of color that looks natural, even if it contrasts with the warmth of a natural blush.”

If you’re looking for a lavender blush to try, Riner has two great suggestions, starting with one from Gucci. “My favorite use of this shade is as a subtle highlight on the high points of the cheekbones, just above the browbone, along the brow bone and in the inner corners of the eyes,” she says. Gucci Glow Powder Gel Highlighter in Frosted Lilac melts into the skin, offering a neutral, soft glow that suits all skin tones, from the lightest to the darkest. With a light application with a fan brush, it gives a subtle lifting effect that looks effortless.”
But we don’t stop there! “For a more dewy, natural finish, I go for NARS Afterglow Liquid Blush in the shade Wanderlust,” Riner continues. “Its formula is simple to use, blends perfectly with the skin and gives a transparent, healthy effect. I like to apply it with my fingers, gradually building the intensity until I achieve the ideal shade. The result? Skin that looks bright, fresh and alive!”
