Protagonist of ‘Emília Pérez’, Karla Sofía Gascon visits Mauricio de Sousa in São Paulo

Karla Sofa Gascon, who this Thursday (23) became the first transsexual to be nominated for the Oscar for best actress, made an unusual tour during her time in Brazil. Out of the official agenda of her visit to the country, she visited the studios of Mauricio de Sousa Produções, in São Paulo.

The protagonist of “Emilia Pérez”, who also got 12 other nominations for the largest prize of world cinema, declared herself a fan of the Brazilian cartoonist. “I discovered the work of Mauricio de Sousa in the 1990s and grew up delighted by his stories,” he said.

On the visit, the Spanish actress met the characters Monica, Chives, Rosinha and Chico Bento. She also won a straw hat and took pictures with the poster from the movie “Chico Bento and Goiabeira Maraviósa” on theaters.

In a conversation with Mauricio de Sousa, the international star revealed that her favorite childhood character is Monica, as she highlights the symbol of female strength and empowerment. “Visiting the place where everything happens and know the grandeur of the creative process was a magical experience,” he said.

This Thursday (23), Karla Sofa Gascon received the Oscar nomination for Best Actress for her performance as Emilia Pérez in the movie that bears the name of the character. Brazilian Fernanda Torres is also among the finalists.
