Ashton Kutcher, 44, and Mila Kunis, 38, managed to reach the goal of raising US$ 30 million (about R$ 152.2 million) to donate to refugees in Ukraine. On the morning of this Friday (18), the couple totaled US$ 34,432,700 (about R$ 174.7 million) on the page on the GoFundMe platform.
In the face of positive reaction from the endowment fund, the couple posted a new video claiming they were raising their fundraising goal to $40 million.
“While this is far from a solution to the problem, our collective effort will provide a smoother landing for so many people as they move forward into their uncertain future,” Kunis says during the video.
“Our work is not done. We will do everything we can to ensure that the outpouring of love that came as part of this campaign makes the most impact for those in need.”
“Funds have already been and will continue to be delivered to Flexport.org and Airbnb.org so they can act now. As funding continues to pour in, we will treat every dollar as if it were being donated out of pocket, with respect and honor for the work that went into earning it, the intention of love through which it was given, and the desire that it be maximized to achieve positive results for others.”
Kunis and Kutcher donated $3 million of their own money to the fundraiser. “Our work is not done, which is why we are raising the target to $40 million,” added Kutcher, encouraging people to continue donating to Ukraine at the end of the video.
The fundraising fund was created by the couple in early March. Kunis, who was born in Chernivtsi, Ukraine, moved to the United States in 1991. “I’ve always considered myself an American, a proud American…” Kunis said in a video released by the actors. “But today, I’ve never been so proud to be Ukrainian.”
