The Municipal Art Gallery of Lefa in Psychiko welcomes Maria Boukouri and Leonidas Germanopoulos in March. The Color Me Beautiful exhibition presents the work of the two contemporary artists on a common photographic trek on the island of Andros.
The title of the report Color me beauty It refers to the idiom of the English language “imagine with beautiful”. It is a photographic journey that captures the three -year tour of artists in Andros that ended on eight separate trips.
The idea was born through discussions about the modern visual landscape of the Greek province. They chose Andros for its particular geographical and cultural character, elements that were a challenge but at the same time inspiration. Although the images were taken in Andros, they could depict any Cycladic island or provincial town.
Through their figurative narrative they reveal a “patient” but always habitable. These are scenes dominated by cement, isolation and loneliness. They toured public and private spaces, urban fabric and rural countryside, discovering a treaty of deterioration and aesthetic decline of the anthropogenic environment that reflects the consequences of rapid and anarchic development.
The photo exhibition Color me beauty It aims to raise awareness of the public about the maintenance of the Cycladic heritage, bringing to the surface scenes of everyday life that could, however, come from any place that has undergone corresponding intervention. In addition, the confrontation of the elements embodies the inevitable process of transformation: the fading of the so -called Cycladic substance along with the emergence of an indefinite identity.
