Known for striking roles such as Rachel Green in “Friends” and Alex Levy in “The Morning Show,” Jennifer Aniston chose a Brazilian to illustrate her first children’s book. Visual artist Bruno Jacob was responsible for the illustrations of “Claudim Bota the Hand in the Mass”, a work inspired by Clyde, the actress’s dog.
“It was a great honor to have been part of this, a memorable milestone in my career,” the artist said in an interview with F5.
Jacob, 34, is a resident of Santo André, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Illustrator, animator and designer, he said he always had drawing as an essential part of his life. “I love to illustrate, think about how to create characters, since I know myself,” he recalls.
His professional beginning was at age 15, when he started caricatures in malls. For seven years, he acted in this segment until he migrated to advertising, working in studios, freelances and a game company, where he remained for almost four years.
The experience led him to increasing projects such as the development of illustrations for American tennis player Serena Williams, as well as creating the design of “Noah’s Ark – a musical journey”, a film that featured a heavy cast like Rodrigo Santoro, Lázaro Ramos and Marcelo Adnet.
He also participated in the creation of an animation for a coffee shop that hires exclusively people with Down syndrome and autism. “The project had a special impact for me, as my daughter has Down syndrome,” says the artist. The illustration won several awards, including Clio Awards and Cannes Lions.

In the illustrator’s view, it was all essential for the invitation to illustrate the American actress’s book. “I started working at a company that creates celebrity -related characters and the first project I did was for Jennifer,” says Bruno. He participated from the first sketches to the direction of art and materials for social networks.
“In one of the tales we did, the illustrations had a very similar style with that of the book. The idea came from that, and asked me if I was interested in illustrating it, as the actress had enjoyed the drawings. Logical I accepted!”
The designer also says he feels creator of the book as much as the actress, as she was at the beginning of the project from the beginning. With the title of “Claudim puts his hands on the dough,” the book tells the story of a puppy who lives with a large family full of talents, but he feels no specific gifts.
Despite working directly on the creation of the characters, Bruno did not have direct contact with Aniston. “I would like to have participated in a meeting with her, but the whole book process was conducted with the publisher. In the character’s creation phase and social networking content, the contact went with her team,” he explains.
Even so, the illustrator received indirect feedback from the actress. “The agency passed me on the compliments she made, and the changes she wanted. I was extremely happy to know that she chose me by my trace and way of creating.”
