Demna resigned from the position of Director of Balenciaga’s creative and will assume the role of artistic director in Gucci.
“Demna’s deep understanding of modern culture, coupled with his widespread experience in arresting visionary works, established him as one of the most important and successful creative of his generation,” said Francesca Belletini, Deputy Managing Director of Kering.
“Demna will bring to Gucci something great. His interpretation of fashion today is unique and this is worth it and needs Gucci for the future, “said House CEO Stefano Kantino, speaking to a group of journalists called to the headquarters of the parent company of Gucci, Kering, in Paris for the announcement.
“We agree that Demna is one of the best creative managers of his generation, with no doubt,” he added. “He has proven his ability to reshape Balenciaga during his term of office, his identity and, of course, his vision for fashion.”

The 43 -year -old Georgian designer will oversee Balenciaga’s last high -end show on July 9th.

I look forward to Stefanos and the rest of the team to write a new chapter in Gucci’s wonderful story, “said Demna, who is succeeding Sabato de Sarno, who left Gucci in early February after two years of collaboration.
Demna Gvasalia was born in Georgia in 1981 to Father Georgian and Mother Russian. In 1997, he studied International Economics at the State University of Tbilisa and graduated in 2001. In the same year he moved to Düsseldorf, Germany with his parents. As he always had the desire to work in fashion despite the family’s concerns, he eventually moved to Antwerp, Belgium where he enrolled at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts and graduated with a master’s degree in fashion plan in 2006.
DEMNA’s position in the fashion industry was established when Kering Group announced in October 2015 that it was assuming Balenciaga.
