For those who are going to $ 80 million for Gene Hackman, who didn’t put their children on the will?

The will of the legendary US actor Gene Hackman was published, but the uncertainty about the destination of his fortune, calculated by about $ 80 million (or about $ 460 million), persists.

Hackman, who was Oscar winner twice, left all his assets to his wife, Betsy Arakawa, with whom he was married for 30 years. However, Arakawa, 65, was found dead with the actor at his New Mexico home last month.

Legal experts stated that as authorities concluded that Arakawa died seven days before her husband, Hackman’s sons could inherit their fortune, although they did not figure in the will.

The three children the actor had with his late ex-wife, Faye Maltese-Christopher, 65, Elizabeth, 62, and Leslie, 58-did not make public statements on the subject.

What the law says

Warning: This story contains details that some readers may find disturbing.

Legal documents obtained by the BBC show that 95 -year -old Hackman appointed Arakawa as the only beneficiary of his assets in 1995, and that the will was last updated in 2005.

However, Californian lawyer TRE LOVELL told the BBC that, according to succession laws, the inheritance could be left to his children in accordance with the laws of succession, provided that no other beneficiary was appointed.

“The inheritance will be processed according to the laws of succession without will and the children would be legally the next in the line of succession,” he explained.

Hackman’s children would have to prove that the will is invalid because Arakawa died before his father, he added. Authorities say Arakawa died on February 11 after contracting a rare virus days before Hackman died of natural causes.

The couple was found dead in separate rooms of their $ 4 million home in Santa Fe on February 26, after the neighborhood’s safety performed a well-being check and saw their bodies on the floor through a window.

Arakawa was found in the bathroom with pills spread nearby, while Hackman was in the back of the house, wearing sweatpants and slippers, his cane and sunglasses by him.

Authorities determined that he died seven days after his wife due to severe heart disease with advanced Alzheimer listed as a contributing factor. The authorities initially considered the scene “suspicious” but then ruled out a crime.

Complicated relationship

Arakawa’s will left his assets to Hackman, with the clause that if they died 90 days together, their assets would be placed in a fiduciary fund and later donated to a charity after medical expenses were covered.

Hackman spoke in the past about his relationship with his children. “You become very selfish as an actor,” he told New York Times in 1989. “Although I had a family, I accepted jobs that separated us for three or four months in a row.

Although they rarely appeared together in public, Hackman’s children occasionally accompanied him at events on the red carpet.

In another interview, the actor talked about the difficulty his children had to grow with a father who was constantly under the spotlight. “It’s hard to be the son or daughter of a celebrity,” he told The Irish Independent in 2000.

“I couldn’t always be home with them while they grew up and, after living in California, they always had my success hung over their heads,” he said.

His daughters and one of his granddaughters expressed deep affection for him after his death. “He was loved and admired by millions of people around the world for his brilliant career as an actor, but for us he was always just a father and grandfather,” they said.

“We will miss him so much and we are devastated with this loss,” they concluded.
