With Mozart’s masterpiece opera “Idomeneas, King of Crete”, Olympia, Municipal Music Theater “Maria Callas” welcomes the largest lyrical production of the Municipality of Athens for this year.
The project “goes up” on March 26, 28, 30 and April 1 with the collaboration of the National Symphony Orchestra of ERT and the Choir of the Municipality of Athens. The music direction and direction has been undertaken by George Petrou, one of the most internationally recognized Greek artists. An excellent group of music artists participate in the performance: The Polish tenor Krystian Adam in the homonymous role and the great Greek lyric singers Mary-Elen Nezi, Myrsini Margariti, Myrto Papathanassiou and Vassilis Kavagias in the leading roles. The reopening of the beautiful building on Akadimias Street, brings the Athenians even closer to high quality cultural spectacles for a few months now.
According to the relevant announcement of the municipality, from last October -when the theater reopened its doors- until today, despite the adverse conditions caused by the pandemic, more than 12,000 spectators have watched 19 musical-theatrical performances in the historic municipal theater of the city, which is also the artistic “home” of the active and active musical ensembles of the Municipality of Athens. The multi-collection programming of the theater’s artistic director, Olivier Decot, includes lyrical productions, theatrical and dance performances, music concerts, as well as impressive collaborations with internationally renowned artists.
The opera “Idomeneas” is a “station” in the two-year programming with Greek works or works of Greek theme. “The theater-jewel of Akadimias Street, conquers the hearts of the Athenians again, with productions of high standards. “Idomeneas” is a typical example of the “new era” in which the Municipal Theater Olympia has passed.
