Scarlett Johansson in front and behind the camera, six filmmakers in the competition section, return of Jafar Panahi and Wes Anderson next to new talents: The 78th Cannes Festival announced today 19 films that will participate in the 7th films.

In addition to Tom Cruise, who is expected to present the latest “Mission: Impossible” and Robert De Niro, for an honorary gold palm palm, May again promises a parade of international stars on the Cannes red carpet.

The festivals are expected to cross with singer and activist Bono for a film about U2 band, Joaquin Phoenix, Judy Foster and watching Harris Dickinson, his actor “Babygirl”, passing behind the camera. Wes Anderson is again in the competition for a movie with Guillermo Del Toro, along with Tom Hanks, Riz Ahmed, Charlotte Gensburg and Scarlett Johansson.

The latter will present, in her 40s, her first film as a director, “Eleanor the Great”. A choice in the “A Look” section, like a symbol of overturning an industry that gives a little bit more and more space for female directors and wants to show that it can draw lessons from the #Metoo movement.

The festival, which was called upon to deal with the issue of the French National Assembly on sexist and sexual violence in the field of culture the day before, assures that it “took its recommendations seriously”.

“I am happy that a change is still imposed with vigor and power. Women are finally heard. The festival is very careful and no longer require their position,” Iris Knbloch’s president added.

In total, six female filmmakers will be involved in the competition, approaching the record of seven recorded in 2023. Terence Malik or Jim Jarmus will also be present at the festival.

Nineteen films are currently competing to succeed the “anora” of American Sean Baker who won the Golden Palm last year.

The Darden brothers will try to win the third palm tree in their history, and French Zulia Dukourno, who hired Tahar Rahim and Golty Farahani, hopes for a second distinction after “Titane”. Brazilian Cleber Mentoza Filio, Italian Mario Martone and American Kelly Raihard will also participate in the competition. The French Affairs Erzi takes its first steps in the match for the Golden Palm.

The chairman of the committee is Ziliet Binos, one of the most well -known French stars for an event that will take place from May 13th to 24th, in a tense context, among the artists’ concerns about Trump and Wars in Ukraine as well as in the Middle East.

On the screen, Ukrainian Sergei Loznitsa will talk about the “USSR years of the 1930s of the Stalinist persecution” (Competition Department) and exiled Russian director Ciril Serebrenikov adapts the “disappearance of Joseph Mengele”. Iranian Jafar Panahi, who was imprisoned in his home country, is also expected.

“We have in this selection of filmmakers who take responsibility for a public dialogue for the world,” the director of the Thierry Frey Frey festival said at a press conference. “These films describe a world (…) difficult, with tensions, with violence where everyone has to have a place but also a world that we have known, we want and continue to see emerging.”

The festival also announced the opening film, a film by French singer Ziliet Armané, titled “Partir Un Jour”, is expected to reveal the jury’s composition soon.

The options for the parallels are expected to be announced next Monday and Tuesday.
