Korissia Lagoon, also known as Korissia, is located on the southwestern coast of Corfu and is a landscape of special natural beauty and a great habitat. In fact, the area has been included in the Natura 2000 network as about 130 species of birds, including Flamingo and Cormorans, find refuge. This beautiful lagoon is separated from the Ionian Sea with a narrow strip of land, about 250 meters wide, and with cinematic dunes! In the southern part we also find a small forest of seabirds (Juniperus Macrocarpa), while in the northern part there are reeds and tamarisk trees. The wider area is of great biological, aesthetic and economic value.

In the waters of the lagoon there is also an endemic species of fish, Knipowitschia Goerneri, who has been found there only in a nearby source. The waters of the lake are sweet, with an average depth of 0.80 meters, and communicate with the sea via a small canal, built in 1923. The Korissia is found 40 kilometers of Corfu’s no -dimensional and about 25 kilometers away from Lefkimmi, while the Katharou Katoukos is very close to them. In order not to alter the identity of the place, residents have turned to alternative tourism, mild development.

Excavations in the area brought to light findings (stone objects) from a prehistoric settlement dating from 950 to 750,000 years ago! The blue waters of the lake are joined by the blue waters of the Ionian Sea, and in combination with white dunes form an Instagrammable landscape of great natural beauty, on which no one remains unmoved.

Take some time to wander the area, dip in the exotic waters and talk to the local fishermen, who have many special stories to share with you. The huge dunes, some of which reach up to 17 meters high, continue to the beach next to Isos, which is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful beaches on the island.

The huge sandy beach extending to the area and crystal clear waters will make you love this beach, at first glance! If you even sit until late, and succeed the sunset, you will see the sun literally dipping into the endless blue of the Ionian Sea, when all the creature is painted in vibrant colors. This is a magical image that you will always carry within you, and you will never forget. All you have to do is book tickets to the island of Faac!
