If you have watched the series Call My Agent !, you already know very well that Fanny Herrero is today one of the smartest and most talented creators. The new project did not take long to come to the Netflix platform, and is entitled Standing Up.
Standing Up follows the lives of four very different comedians
Nezir works as a delivery man and finds his new jokes during his travels in the city. Aïssatou tries in every way to give a boost to her career as a comedian, but without much success. Together they visit a famous Comedy Club in Paris, the owner of which, Bling, is struggling to make ends meet. He feels that no one laughs at his jokes anymore and that because of technology and evolution people now laugh at very different – and often indifferent – jokes.
In an attempt to save the store, the three of them join forces to regain the lost glamor of the Paris comedy scene. Of course, this is not an easy task, but a grand task that requires many sacrifices. Especially when all three heroes have different nationalities and face racism, discrimination and problems on a daily basis like any other foreigner in Paris.
The series touches in its own way on the racism that people experience in Paris
Although Paris, like many other European cities, is now multicultural, racism never disappears. With her tool of comedy, Fanny Herrero faces with irony and sarcasm all these problems of everyday life in order to make us see them more clearly now. She was even inspired to create this series, when she got to know the underground comedy scene of Paris better.
Standing Up would not be possible without Netflix’s freedom of speech, and this is already evident. That is why it is going to be your new, favorite series on the platform.
